  6.     The U.S. Senate voted 88 to 5 last week to bar states from
  7. allowing gambling on professional and amateur sports events.
  8. Nevada, Delaware, Oregon, North Dakota and Montana already allow
  9. sports gambling. Other cash-strapped states have been itching
  10. to get into the lucrative trade. Senator Bill Bradley, a former
  11. college and professional basketball star, said, "This will
  12. preserve the opportunity for all young people who want to
  13. participate in sports to regard the game as theirs, not the
  14. gamblers'."
